Yoshimura Sake Brewing

The Four Seasons Brewing Warehouse
That Enables Sake Brewing Throughout the Year

This is the Four Seasons Brewing Warehouse of Yoshimura Sake Brewery (currently Zuiyou Sake Brewery) in Kumamoto Prefecture. Yoshimura Sake Brewery was founded in the 3rd year of the Keio era (1867) and is famous for its “Red Sake“. To meet the increasing demand for sake in the 1950s (the 30th year of the Showa era), this warehouse was constructed as a facility that enables sake brewing not only in winter but throughout the year. The building is of concrete structure, with heat-insulating exterior walls made of double walls and polystyrene. It is a multi-layered sake brewing factory that has introduced air conditioning systems in the main brewery rooms. The exterior walls display the traditional Japanese columns and beams, and a modern design is adopted by installing a folded plate shaped large eave above the exterior walls. In 2016, it withstood the Kumamoto Earthquake and contributed to the early resumption of sake brewing operations.
