This project involves the construction of a new station building at Hōnanchō Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, aimed at improving barrier-free access and serving as a new entrance for subway users. With the goal of creating a visually striking station building that serves as an urban landmark for public transportation, the design features a sculptural composition of two interlocking L-shapes embedded into a white, massive wall. These L-shapes express both the horizontal nature of the subway context and the vertical connection to the underground space—one as a recessed transparent glass opening, and the other as a protruding translucent glass gate, symbolizing the contrast between above and below ground. The interior space is designed to reflect the identity of a terminal station, emphasizing brightness, openness, and cleanliness through a predominantly white palette. The Marunouchi Line’s signature red color is subtly integrated into key visual elements such as escalator handrails and ceiling slits, guiding passengers intuitively toward the platform. On the platform walls, a gradient of the line color is applied at regular intervals in the direction of travel, allowing passengers—both on the platform and inside the train—to intuitively sense that they are at the starting or ending point of the line.
