TOKYO METRO GINZA LINE SUEHIROCHO STATION

Color and Light Conveying Station’s History and Its Connection to the City

Suehirocho Station is one of the stations in the downtown area included in the Ginza Line Renovation Project, designed under the concept of “Memory of the Land – A Sense of Familiarity and Affection.” Located at the northern gateway to Akihabara, the station’s design centers around the keyword “Electric Town,” reflecting the area's historical identity and emotional ties to the city. The completely renovated platform area features jet-black walls and ceilings, creating a dramatic contrast that emphasizes the presence of the lighting elements embedded within. In contrast, the track area—retaining its original riveted structure and vaulted ceiling from the station’s opening—is rendered in pure white. This stark color contrast highlights the historical character of the space. The white surfaces gently reflect the light from the platform, enhancing the spatial composition and creating a three-dimensional effect. The station also integrates familiar wall art from before the renovation with newly installed ceramic tile artworks, symbolizing the connection between past and present. These elements aim to establish the station as a beloved landmark that continues to resonate with users for years to come.
