Kousaiji-temple, Soto-buddist temple rooted in Eiheiji Temple founded by Dougen Zenji (founder of the Japanese Soto-Buddist), was established as Shinmei Kousaiji in Keichō 4 (1599) by Zen Master Chougen Shu-shu, the 3rd generation successor of Jutoku. As part of its 400th anniversary memorial project in 11th Heisei era(1999), the temple underwent major renovations of Hon-do(main hall) and Kyaku-den (guest hall). Located in Renkōji-temple, Tama City, the temple is surrounded by a quiet residential area. The Hon-do(main hall), Kyaku-den(guest hall), and Kuri (Dinig-hall) are arranged to encircle the inner precinct, guiding visitor's gaze from the east-facing San-mon(main gate) to the Hon-do for a seamless approach. The three buildings, based on traditional architectural styles of Zen, express their distinct characters through varied roof forms.
