During the period of high economic growth, Kitakyushu City suffered from poor water quality and environmental pollution caused by factory wastewater. Later, by focusing on water quality purification, it has been transformed. The water environment technology of the Water and Sewerage Bureau of Kitakyushu City has developed to the extent that it has achieved many remarkable results in improving the water environment in various countries such as Southeast Asia. This facility is not only an exhibition facility where people can learn about the water environment technology and sewerage system that have been accumulated over time, but also plays the role of an "International Strategic Base for Water Business" to promote the export of Japan's water environment technology. The rainwater pouring down from the canopy of leaves is purified by the exterior wall louvers, which are metaphorically compared to a filtration membrane, and then flows into the water basin and the biotope. By integrating the exterior design of the building and the external landscape, the theme of "Water Purification" is vividly expressed.
