Illuminated by Light Narrative Quiet Space for Zen Meditation

This is the Zazen Halls Located on the new campus of Tomakomai Komazawa University in Hokkaido. Zazen(Zazen meditation) is considered to be important for developing an attitude toward academics, and it was positioned as a central facility in the new campus plan. In the plan, the place of zazen was designed to be quiet to unify the spirit, and the natural light from the high side lights envelops the entire space evenly and softly, so that the passage of time can be felt slowly. The design of the sharply angled eaves that emphasizes the horizontal line of the roof expresses the style of the zazen-do and as a symbol of the senses honed through zazen practice. In addition, the colors of the exterior are unified in monotone, expressing a selfless and dignified appearance. It is designed as a core facility for cultivating academic discipline through Zazen.
