Recruit Running Club

A Training Center Featuring a Speed-Inspired Exterior Design for Olympic Athlete

This boarding facility for Recruit's corporate women's track and field team—home to many elite middle-distance runners—was built in coach's hometown of Sakura City. The building includes dormitories, training gyms, massage rooms, lounge, dining areas, and large communal baths. A vertical retaining wall which define the site inspired the design of it: a robust concrete wall parallel to the retaining wall, while dormitories are fan-shaped along the front road. Flowing horizontal lines from balcony edges create a dynamic facade evoking athletic speed. Training stairs connecting dormitory to ground along the concrete wall add architectural emphasis.
